A fixture on the Finger Lakes music scene for over twenty-five years, GoGone is a six-piece, eclectic, band based in Ithaca, NY. The group's music was built around the catalog of songwriter, guitarist and founder R. Cooper, and it has added contributions by fellow founder and accordionist Meryl Young and guitarist/mandolin player Ted Walsh. Drummer Scott Wiggins is the other founding member, and he is joined in the rhythm section by bassist Bill Benson, of Ithaca. David Hurwitz has held down lead guitar duties for GoGone since 2015.
GoGone's sound is based in Americana, but includes influences from blues, rock, and soul. In recent years, the group has also branched out with some unusual cover songs by artists such as Patty Griffin, Tom Waits, The Velvet Underground, and The Band. In 2025, GoGone released the album "Come Closer...," its second studio album and third album overall. The project contains five songs by Cooper, two by Walsh, one by Young, and a cover of the Ryan Adams song "Sweet Carolina." It is available on all streaming sites, and for free download here on GoGonemusic.com.
A live performance by GoGone is spirited and inspiring, with three and four-part harmonies, and accordion, mandolin, and guitars weaving around each other against a solid groove. Dancing is encouraged.
